Supermama – Vessels

As part of the inaugural Supermama Porcelain Festival in 2016, we were invited to curate and participate in Vessels, a collaboration between 5 Singapore designers and Japanese porcelain label Kihara Inc. Each designer was tasked to design a porcelain vessel marrying contemporary design and traditional craftsmanship.

At first glance, Fish out of the Bag seems to take inspiration from the majestic carps seen on traditional Japanese porcelain. A closer look, however, reveals a keenly personal and uniquely ‘Singaporean’ story. A story of the ubiquitous carp symbol on the plastic bags used by neighbourhood stores, of which the original design can be traced back to Larry.

It takes two hands to clap. If you like what you see and are interested in working together with us, let’s chat.
