GET IN TOUCHAs part of the inaugural Supermama Porcelain Festival in 2016, we were invited to curate and participate in Vessels, a collaboration between 5 Singapore designers and Japanese porcelain label Kihara Inc. Each designer was tasked to design a porcelain vessel marrying contemporary design and traditional craftsmanship.
At first glance, Fish out of the Bag seems to take inspiration from the majestic carps seen on traditional Japanese porcelain. A closer look, however, reveals a keenly personal and uniquely ‘Singaporean’ story. A story of the ubiquitous carp symbol on the plastic bags used by neighbourhood stores, of which the original design can be traced back to Larry.
